Retention analytics platform overview
The platform

Every second your audience is listening, Shoutcast is measuring

Ingest stream logs, see minute-level retention curves, identify the exact segments where listeners leave. Built for programming directors and ad-ops teams who need to act on data, not read about it.

How it works

From raw stream data to programming decisions in three steps

Connect your stream logs

Point Shoutcast at your CDN event log or Icecast/SHOUTcast server. We accept direct S3 export, webhook push, or our lightweight listener agent. Setup takes under 20 minutes.

Retention maps are built automatically

Our processing pipeline stitches listener sessions into a continuous curve, aligning playback position to clock time. Every episode gets a per-second retention chart, updated hourly.

Act on segment insights

Shoutcast surfaces drop-off flags, ad-break attribution scores, and host transition signals in one dashboard. Export to your scheduling tool or pull via API into your existing workflow.

Core features

Built around the decisions programmers make every week

Minute-level retention curves

Every episode shows a precise curve of what percentage of listeners were still playing at each minute mark. You can see whether a drop was gradual or sudden, and compare it against the same show's historical average.

  • Per-second resolution on request
  • Baseline comparison to prior 4 episodes
  • Anomaly flags when a drop exceeds your set threshold

Ad-break attribution

Shoutcast calculates the listener-loss percentage at each ad break, classified against your network's historical baseline. Breaks that perform above average are highlighted for your ad-sales team. Breaks that cause unusual drop-off get a flag before the next airing.

  • Break-level loss scores for every episode
  • Comparison to show baseline and network average
  • Position-change recommendation when a break underperforms

Host and segment signals

When a host transition or content segment corresponds to a retention drop, Shoutcast labels the event on the curve. You see which hosts consistently hold listeners and which segments are losing them before you commit to a next-season format.

  • Automatic segment boundary detection from your scheduling cue sheet
  • Host-level retention score across all episodes in a date range
  • Format test comparison: compare two episode structures head to head

API and export

Every data point in Shoutcast is accessible via REST API. Pull retention curves, segment scores, and ad-break reports into your scheduling tools, BI dashboards, or ad-sales CRM. Broadcast and Network plans include webhook delivery for real-time event streams.

  • REST API with OpenAPI spec included
  • CSV export per episode or per date range
  • Webhook events for drop-off alerts and weekly digests
Data sources

Connects to the infrastructure you already run

Shoutcast reads from the log formats streaming platforms natively produce. No custom instrumentation, no SDK install on your CDN.

  • Icecast / SHOUTcast server logs
  • CDN event log formats (direct S3 export)
  • S3 log export (automatic hourly ingestion)
  • Webhook push from your streaming infrastructure
  • REST API pull on demand
  • Lightweight listener agent (optional SDK-free install)

See your retention data in under 24 hours

Connect your stream logs, and Shoutcast processes the last 90 days of episodes automatically. No historical data loss.
